Digital Photography Process: How to Professionally Edit Photos & Organize your Digital Library

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

Domenico Pino, Instructor. Now that you have a digital camera, what is the best way to manage all your photos? This course is all about what you do with an image after you take it.

Photoshop and Lightroom are good programs but they are complicated and expensive. PICASA was created by Google and is free. It can retouch facial blemishes, crop, adjust exposure, apply filters, recognize faces, add text, create collages, special effects, catalog and organize images with captions, and it’s easier to learn. I manage a library with over 100,000 images using PICASA, while saving Photoshop for the more complex editing.

You will learn the entire process flow from camera downloading, through processing and editing, to printing and distribution in five sessions.

1)    Getting PICASA installed and running on your PC (a MAC version is also available). This session includes a basic review of PC file organization, introduces you to the standard process flow, and builds the case for a robust naming convention to organize all your future images for easy retrieval.

2)    Using provided images, we’ll explore basic editing: cropping, adjustments, blemish removal, and adding text. You’ll be amazed at how you can turn a so-so photo into one you will be proud to display.

3)    A complete review of the process flow from importing, to printing and distribution using your images. Bring you camera’s SD card into class. We’ll discuss important considerations when printing and sizing for frames, and some cool tricks to help you post on social media like Facebook.

4)    All about special effects – from B/W conversion to creating fancy borders, and other artistic filters. You’ll also learn to make your own collages to save money at your local processor.

5)    Tips and tricks for improved organization, searching, creating albums and CD’s, and what you critically need to know about backup.

Prerequisites:
You will need a laptop to bring to class.
You will need a Mouse (preferably wired) – touch pads and touch screens will slow you down.
